Michiana Diversity Leadership Initiative (MDLI):
Step Up to Leadership Program
MDLI is an endeavor to create effective community leaders. Through an interactive educational curriculum, the program is designed to train, motivate, and empower underrepresented populations to act as servant leaders in the community.
Outcomes include preparing participants to act as active and effective organization leaders, board members, and advocates for community initiatives. Our goal is to build a community that strengthens the economic, educational, and leadership development in Michiana.
MDLI program is for participants (19-39 yrs. old). The class begins each year in April. Registration begins in January. If you are interested, please contact us.

About MDLI
Step Up to Leadership is a hands-on learning experience. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences with the group so that each person can learn from the successes (and failures) of others. Incorporating these individual experiences, the instructor uses various techniques to help facilitate resolutions to real-life problems.
Step Up to Leadership is looking for:
- People who are willing to assume the responsibilities of board membership
- People who want to work well in groups and develop strong working partnerships
- People striving to be good leaders
Our Goals:
- Understand board responsibilities, the parliamentary procedure, running a community meeting and public speaking tips
- Understand themselves and others
- Learn how to build strong relationships in a safe and fun environment
This program is offered for $100 to people who are interested in making a difference in their communities and willing to commit to attending all 12 sessions. Each session is 2½ hours long and includes a light meal. Sessions take place on one evening per week from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Locations will vary from week to week.
